Key Pieces: The Loafer
I hate to say this aloud but Summer is officially over. We can feel it in the cool evenings and even though we are still being teased with a few hot September days sprinkled in here or there it’s time head over to the storage unit and switch out our summer staples for winter ones.
Though the thought of spending a weekend going to my storage unit makes we want to gag, I love organizing my closet and taking inventory. This allows me to imaging all my fall pairings and plan what I need to buy, keep, and donate.
This season top of my list, the loafer. It’s a definite fall favorite and all brands, high and low, are making sure to have multiple options. What I love about the loafer is its ability to be casual and comfortable while remaining professional and put together. These two rarely meet and when they do I take notice. However, with all the variations out there it’s easy to get lost in the loafer abyss. For me I’m really liking the simplicity of the picks above. Having just the right amount of pizazz is key otherwise you’ll end up more librarian than chic but there is an important balance. Elements like embroidery, tassels and studs work when the shoe color pallet is neutral. Metallic works with no embellishment. You get the picture.
I’m super excited about the silver metallic Elizabeth & James loafer pictured at the top. They arrived at my door last week. I’m pining to wear them so stay tuned for some styling options with the beauties to come soon.
